The North Gauteng High Court has ruled that President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu KaZwelithi is unlawful and invalid. It says the judgment is not about who should be AmaZulu King
The court found that Ramaphosa’s decision was unlawful and invalid.
The court was asked to determine whether King Misuzulu has been appointed in terms of the Zulu custom, and secondly, whether the President had correctly recognised the king in terms of the Leadership Act.
The court ordered Ramaphosa to appoint an investigative committee to conduct an investigation and provide a report regarding allegations that the identification of Misuzulu was not done in terms of customary laws and customs.
