A 29-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged murder of two Free State police officers.
A team of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS) together with the Tactical Response Team, Local Criminal Record Centre, Provincial Anti-gang Unit and Provincial Detectives Serious and Violent Crime Unit followed and apprehended the fourth suspect in Mangaung village on Monday.

“He was found in possession of one silver and black Taurus pistol, one pistol magazine with two live ammunition, one brown balaclava, and a Samsung Galaxy cellphone,” said Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale.
Two police officers, Constable Sipho Mohapi and Constable Gedione Motloung were fatally shot responding to a house robbery in Phuthaditjhaba on the 4th of January 2025.
The first two suspects, Marasane Kabelo Anmony (27) and his co-accused, Pakiso Lethako (32) are to appear for a bail hearing on the 24th of January 2025.
The third suspect, Lakaje Piet Thetha (53), made his first court appearance at Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s court on Monday the 20th of January 2025.
The 29-year-old suspect is set to appear at the same court on Wednesday, 22 January 2025, facing charges of murdering two police officers, house robbery, and possessing an unlicensed firearm.
HAWKS Lt Gen (Dr/Adv) SG Lebeya commented the team who carried out the arrests and expressed his gratitude to the communities assisting the investigation team on bringing forward the perpetrators to face the night arm of the law.
