A former captain in the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Susanna Jacoba Muller (53), appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. Muller faces charges of corruption, theft, and defeating the administration of justice.
The DPCI reported that Muller’s charges come from two cases opened at the Honeydew and Krugersdorp police stations in 2023 and 2024. One case involves her role in a 2020 investigation into suspects connected to cash-in-transit heists. Laptops, tablets, a wallet, and R30,000 in cash that Muller took out are now missing, leading to charges of theft and obstruction of justice.
In a separate case, Muller is accused of developing a romantic relationship with a suspect, Oupa Moleleki, to extract information about stolen vehicles and unlicensed firearms. She allegedly received R10 000 which was deposited into her father’s bank account, which she claimed was part of an intelligence operation targeting cash-in-transit crimes.
Muller confirmed these allegations to her commander and handed over the R10 000 , which was secured. Further investigations revealed that she also shared sensitive case information with another accused and offered assistance with bail.
The National Prosecuting Authority is reportedly considering additional charges of money laundering and corruption.
The National Head of the Hawks , Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya strongly condemned corruption within law enforcement.
Corruption undermines the rule of law and erodes public trust. We are committed to holding accountable anyone involved in unlawful activities.
Lebeya also urged the South African Police Service (SAPS) members to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
