Dr. Naledi Pandor, a veteran South African politician, has been appointed as the new Board Chair for the Nelson Mandela Foundation, effective October 1. Pandor’s extensive experience working closely with Nelson Mandela during South Africa’s transition to democracy in the 1990s makes her an ideal fit for this role.
As one of South Africa’s longest-serving members of Parliament, Pandor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the foundation. She expressed her enthusiasm for the new position, stating, “In a world facing so many complex challenges, mobilising Madiba’s legacy becomes more important than ever. I believe that the Nelson Mandela Foundation is doing critically important work in the social justice space, and I am looking forward to making a meaningful contribution.”
Before assuming her new role, Pandor will attend the 22nd Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture on September 28, 2024, themed “Realising Our Shared Humanity” . This prestigious event is part of the foundation’s efforts to promote dialogue and social justice.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation has a history of hosting esteemed speakers, including Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, who delivered the 21st annual lecture in 2023 . With Pandor at the helm, the foundation is poised to continue its vital work in promoting Madiba’s legacy and advancing social justice.
