The MK party has withdrawn Dr. John Hlophe’s name as its nominee to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), according to MK party Spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela. This development comes amidst controversy surrounding Hlophe’s designation to the JSC.
Dr. Hlophe, the party’s Parliamentary leader, has also resigned from the JSC, effective immediately. The decision follows intense scrutiny and legal challenges from the Democratic Alliance (DA), which had filed papers in the Western Cape High Court against Hlophe’s designation.
The DA’s opposition stems from Hlophe’s past conduct, including findings of guilt by the JSC for attempting to influence Constitutional Court Justices.
The National Assembly had previously designated Hlophe to the JSC on July 9, 2024
