On 21 January 2025, Deputy President Paul Mashatile arrived at the Kievits Kroon Gauteng Wine Estate to take part in the Annual NEDLAC Organised Labour School. This important event brought together leaders, workers, and policymakers to talk about the state of work in South Africa and the issues workers face.
“The theme of this year’s gathering, ‘Building unity of workers to defend labour rights and advance decent work for all,’ focusing on uniting workers to protect their rights and improve working conditions for everyone,” said Mashatile.
The ‘NEDLAC Organised Labour School‘ happens every year to review how the labour market is doing and to find solutions to problems faced by workers across the country. It’s a space where labour unions, government, and businesses can come together to work on plans that support workers and strengthen labour rights.
This event is very important because South Africa is going through tough times in the job market. Workers are facing job losses, low pay, and hard working conditions. The school gives leaders and workers a chance to talk about ways to create more jobs, make pay fair, and improve workplaces for everyone.

Deputy President Mashatile’s attendance showed the government’s commitment to listening to workers and making changes that help protect their rights. With events like these, South Africa moves closer to creating a fair and equal work environment for all its people.
