Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Andries Nel visited the Mitchells Plain Police Station on Friday, 7 February 2025, to evaluate the progress of the Integrated Person Management (IPM) solution. This initiative forms a critical part of the government’s Integrated Justice System (IJS) project, aimed at modernising and enhancing the efficiency of justice services in South Africa.
The IPM solution enhances the management of detainees from the time of the arrest to court proceedings, facilitating smooth cooperation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development (DOJ&CD).
It enables the collection of biometric data, immediate identity verification, and status checks against various criminal databases, such as those maintained by the Department of the Home Affairs (DHA), SAPS criminal records, the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO), and the Child Protection Register (CPR).
The IPM system allows an officer making an arrest to instantly retrieve a person’s criminal history, verify any outstanding warrants, and authenticate their identity against multiple government databases, all in real-time. This streamlines the process by removing the need for manual verifications, minimalizing delays, and enhancing the speed and accuracy of processing.
Basically , the IPM system essentially provides a single, holistic view of the person within the Justice system. Not only does it make the administration of Justice simpler, but it also eases the workload of those working within the Justice system.
In today’s event the Deputy Minister, presided over a demonstration of a ground-breaking technological innovation in the Integrated Justice System (IJS). The event highlighted how technology is enhancing the efficiency and coordination of Justice services.
