A devastating multi-vehicle collision occurred on the N3 at Van Reenen Pass on Monday, resulting in 18 fatalities and leaving a baby in critical condition. The crash involved a truck, taxi, and car.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, confirmed that several people were trapped in the wreckage. The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene, sparking a search operation.
The N3 Toll Concession company reported that the pass was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to respond to the incident. According to the company, heavy mist and hazardous weather conditions contributed to the fatal crash.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
