
The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Cape Town City Council member, JP Smith, had his offices raided this afternoon over allegations of construction tender fraud. Smith is responsible for overseeing Safety and Security, as well as Housing, in the Cape Town council.
The raid was conducted by the Police Commercial Crimes Unite as part of an investigation into the tender fraud in the construction sector of the City of Cape Town, which is currently running before courts.
The South African Services Police (SAPS) Commercial Crimes Unit investigators visited the City of Cape Town municipal officers today, raiding both Smith’s and Xanthea Limberg’s officers. Limberg is also a politician with the DA, who is responsible for Informal Settlements, Water & Waste, and Services and Energy in Cape Town. No arrests have been made.
The Western Cape SAPS Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit says that several municipal officials and business owners are facing a multitude number of charges, related to the same investigation. Investigations Continue.
