The ANC says it was only a matter of time before President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Expropriation Act into law.
The party denies keeping its partners in the Government of National Unity (GNU) in the dark about the new law. Fikile Mbalula, the ANC Secretary-General, explained that once laws are signed, it is up to the ministers to make them happen.
However, DA leader John Steenhuisen says the ANC did not follow through on the agreement made with their GNU partners.
He is upset that the Expropriation, BELA, and NHI Bills were signed into law even though many people disagreed. These new laws have caused problems between the partners in the government, as they have very different opinions about them.
Dean Macpherson, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, says the Expropriation Act is not right according to the constitution. He and other DA members say they found out the law had been signed through social media.
Macpherson also said he told the President to think again about the law before moving forward. These disagreements show how divided the government is right now.
