The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) and other law enforcement agencies are conducting a massive man hunt for a convict, Clatta Gumbo.
Clatta Gumbo escaped from the Mamelodi Regional Hospital in the east of Tshwane on Monday.
Gumbo was admitted to the Baviaanspoort Correctional Centre in Tshwane on 28 August 2018 and has been serving a life sentence for rape, kidnapping and assault.
“He was being escorted to the hospital for a dietician consultation when he attacked the guard, disarmed him, and fled the premises,” says Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.

Nxumalo urges the public to remain watchful and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
