Botswana’s President Duma Boko has said that growing the economy in new ways and protecting wildlife are big goals for his leadership. Speaking with SABC News at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Boko talked about his first time at the event, calling it a big success for his presidency.

In his speech, Boko talked about the need to grow Botswana’s economy in different ways. Since the country mostly depends on diamond mining, he said it’s important to find new businesses and investments to help the economy grow and stay strong in the future.

“Diversifying the economy is critical to reducing our dependence on a single sector and opening doors for long-term development,” said Boko.

In addition to economic reform, wildlife conservation is a central focus of Boko’s leadership. Botswana is home to some of Africa’s most iconic species, and the president reiterated his commitment to safeguarding the country’s rich biodiversity.

He talked about the importance of balancing conservation efforts with economic activities such as eco-tourism, ensuring the protection of wildlife while contributing to the nation’s economy.

President Boko also praised the World Economic Forum as a valuable platform for engaging with global leaders, investors, and policymakers. He expressed optimism about building partnerships that align with Botswana’s development goals, particularly in sectors like renewable energy, technology, and sustainable agriculture.

“This forum has allowed us to share Botswana’s story and vision with the world. It has been a productive experience that will benefit our nation as we move forward,” said Boko.
