EThekwini Municipality received its latest audit report on Thursday morning, confirming that it has maintained an unqualified audit opinion for the financial year ending 30 June 2024. However, the Auditor-General also highlighted findings of non-compliance.
The report found non-compliance in areas related to legislation, major issues in the Annual Performance Report, and significant irregularities.
EThekwini Municipality’s communication unit said that the Municipality acknowledges the findings and is committed to addressing them. Efforts will focus on strengthening oversight, improving internal controls, enhancing compliance measures, closely monitoring performance, and enforcing accountability for any violations.
“We take these findings seriously and are already implementing corrective measures to ensure full compliance with Legislative requirements and improved performance reporting. Our continued commitment to good governance and provision of basic services remains our top priority. This includes the provision of water, sanitation, roads, electricity and human settlements,” said City Manager Musa Mbhele.
