According to reports, Mabunda was summoned regarding a case filed at Pretoria North police station in August 2019. The investigation revealed that Mabunda, acting as an attorney, filed claims with the Road Accident Fund on behalf of his clients and received a substantial payment of R10,562,173.21 into his trust account.

However, allegations suggest that Mabunda failed to distribute these funds to his clients, resulting in substantial financial losses.

Mabunda appeared in the Pretoria Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on October 15, 2024, to face charges related to the alleged fraud. The case has been postponed to November 26, 2024, for further proceedings.
