Three teenage students from Centenary Secondary School were rushed to the hospital this morning after being stabbed during a violent altercation on school grounds.

According to reports, the fight erupted following an alleged racist incident, escalating into a physical confrontation. The students sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

School was dismissed early this morning and letters were sent out to parents informing them that certain “circumstances have risen” causing the early dismissal.

Videos shared on social media depict students engaged in a violent altercation outside Centenary Secondary School, while onlookers, believed to be nearby residents, recorded the incident. Many could be heard questioning why security personnel failed to intervene

The Democratic Alliance (DA) spokesperson on education, Sakhile Mngadi, said that the reason for what caused the fight is still unknown and that they want a thorough investigation.

He added that the investigation should examine how students managed to bring weapons into the school, the effectiveness of the school’s security measures, and the actions the department needs to take to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This incident follows after allegations of racial intolerance at the Drankensburg Secondary School hit the surface last week.

Despite the violence, the school issued a notice that everything will be back to normal on Wednesday.

An anonymous individual who claimed to have witnessed the incident advised parents to get together on Wednesday to get clarification on the matter.

The KwaZulu-Natal department of Education has sent officials to the school to collect information and consult with key parties, such as the school management, teachers, students, and parents. They are also collaborating with law enforcement to make sure those who incited or contributed to the violence are held responsible.

They also condemned this violent behaviour and assured the public that they will make it their priority to restore peace in the school and offer support to the affected pupils.
