Agnes Setshwantso (50) is accused of life insurance fraud and murder. She is said to have taken out life insurance policies for more than 40 family members and killed some of them to collect the insurance money.

Setshwantso faces charges of murder, for allegedly killing her niece Bonolo Modiseemang. She is also suspected to have killed her husband, son and her two daughters. In addition, the accused is charged with two counts of fraud and one count of defeating the ends of justice.

Setshwantso was arrested in November 2023 and has so far been denied bail. Her murder case trial was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 20 January but has been posted to this coming Friday, 24 January 2024.

Nhlanhla Mahlangu, who is representing Setshwantso, says they are not ready to continue with the trial as planned. This is because the legal team hasn’t been able to meet with her or review the evidence related to the case. Mahlangu explained that this has made it hard to move forward with the day’s proceedings.

The trial was supposed to last five days, but due to delays, we are still waiting to hear about any changes made to accommodate the trial and the accused’s legal team.

It is believed that Setshwantso may have killed other family members. There is a strong chance that more murder and fraud charges could be added against her as the trial moves forward.
