The Hawks have apprehended six suspects for allegedly perpetrating a R400 million fraud scheme related to tenders at Eskom and Sasol in 2017
The accused, Mark Smith (61), Alex Roditis (45), Vanessa Chungu (43), Raymond Crozier (62), Guy Le Roux (56), and Ronald Hoy (58), are facing charges of falsifying financial records, claiming fictitious shareholder agreements, and engaging in fronting, violating the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Act.

Companies implicated in the scandal include NJM Treatment and NDE Services, Dasmar Engineering, and Thermo Jet. The suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court and were each released on R20,000 bail.
According to the Hawks, the suspects confessed to presenting false information to Eskom and Sasol, leading to NJM’s services being terminated.
“The potential loss to both entities is estimated at over R400 million,” said a Hawks spokesperson.
The case has been postponed to November 29 for disclosure of docket contents.
